A Safari in Africa a wonderful experience that will live on in your memory for a lifetime. The environment changes throughout the year depending on the rains, and the migration of the animals closely follows the growth of lush vegetation. Then of course the Lion, Leopards, Cheetah, and other predators follow the migration. Each Safari is unique, you are bound to see something new each time you explore a track through the wide open plains. When visitors come to the Serengeti it helps to protect the animals for future generations to enjoy.
Many people who visit the Serengeti prefer spending a few nights under canvas in a mobile tented camp. During the night you can hear the animals in the distance calling to each other, and sometimes they walk very near the campsite. Each tent is very comfortable, the toilet flushes, and the shower is hot, and the courtesy of the staff is exceptional. The food is fresh, the camp fire is warm and hyenas provide the perfect lullaby. The stars are so bright, usually there isn’t a need for a flashlight except to see if any lion are getting too close for comfort. The advantages of a mobile camp is of course that you are where the bulk of the animals are, and in the Serengeti that means you are in the thick of the great migration!
A safari in the Serengeti is a soul-stirring experience in a wild natural environment. The name Serengeti comes from the Masai word ‘Siringit’ which means ‘the place where the land runs on forever’ and refers to the flat grassy plains which make up about a third of the park. It is these grasslands and savannahs that ensure that the area is full of animals! There are more than 3 million large mammals in the Serengeti, and where ever there are large mammals there are predators. The Serengeti is well known for the wildebeest migration, when every year two million animals move clockwise around this 14,763 sq km national park in search of grazing and water. Although most predators are territorial, many follow the wildebeest and zebra closely and a Serengeti Safari is an ideal opportunity to view lions, cheetahs and leopards and more rarely caracals.
